The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department wants to ensure each home in the City of Atlanta has a working smoke alarm. Why do our volunteers enjoy working with the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department’s Smoke Alarm program…Smoke Alarms Save Lives! Our volunteers receive a tremendous feeling of accomplishment knowing how they helped keep another City of Atlanta resident safe from fires.
They also feel a sense of camaraderie when working closely together with firefighters within the community. One Atlanta Resident commented on the ASAP program by saying, “Thanks for your quick response! Having AFRD install these detectors will be tremendous relief for my family and me.”
The Atlanta Community Emergency Response Team (ACERT) program helps train people to be better prepared to respond to emergency situations in their communities. When emergencies happen, ACERT members can give critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims, and organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site.
ACERT members can also help with non-emergency projects that help improve the safety of the community. This six weeks course is offered to all participants who are 18 years of age and able to pass a background check.
