Tuition Assistance Program

Empowering educational success.

Designed to support firefighters’ educational journey, the Foundation's Tuition Assistance program covers costs up to $3000 per year in reimbursement for firefighters pursuing an associate, bachelors and masters degrees. Upon receiving one of these degrees a compensation increase is received on a firefighters base pay in an amount of 3% to 7% depending on the degree obtained. Having the ability to complete a degree program leads to career advancement and promotions ensuring the most qualified candidates are part of the esteemed Atlanta Fire Rescue Department.

Application Submission Periods

2023 Fall Semester Application Submission Period Opens Monday, January 2, 2024 and closes Friday, January 26, 2024

2024 Spring Semester Application Submission Period Opens Monday, June 3, 2024 and closes Friday, June 28, 2024

2024 Summer Semester Application Submission Period Opens Monday, September 2, 2024 and closes Friday, September 27, 2024

2025 Fall Semester Application Submission Period Opens Monday, January 6, 2024 and closes Friday, January 24, 2025

All applications must be submitted by close of business (5pm Eastern Time) on the last day of the submission period in order to be eligible for reimbursement.

Qualification Requirements

In order for members of the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department to be eligible for reimbursement provided by the Foundation's Tuition Assistance Program the following criteria must be met:

Tuition Assistance Candidate must attend and successfully complete higher education institution semester or quarter. 

Candidate must have successfully paid out of pocket expense receiving associated receipt or documented proof of transaction.

Candidate must be in good standing with the Office of Professional Standards.

Candidate must be able to provide a digital or hard copy of transcript.

 

Candidate must be able to provide an itemized bill from institution's financial or designated department.

Please note: Successful completion of Tuition Assistance application does not guarantee reimbursement funding. Additionally, all funding is available on a first come first serve basis according to total available program funding.
